Transition Services

Heartland Head Start offers transition activities and information throughout the school year for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers transitioning into Early Head Start, Head Start, and the public schools.

Families engage in transition activities throughout the year to support school readiness skills, such as program and community events. Tip sheets are also distributed and contain information about easing separations, school readiness, and parent and teacher relationships.Families receive support from staff as they transition to EHS Center Based or preschool. Heartland Head Start also provides newly enrolled families the opportunity to:

  • meet teaching staff
  • visit the classroom
  • learn important information about daily routines

Families transitioning to kindergarten:

  • receive information about where and when their child needs to pre-register
  • can visit with kindergarten staff at pre-registration events and visit a classroom.

Successful transitions are a priority for Heartland Head Start. The connections between preschools, schools and families can maintain and maximize the gains that children achieve in our program.
