Heartland Head Start receives federal grant funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to operate our Head Start program. The funding requires a 20% local match through donated funds, space, materials, volunteer hours, and services from the community. It represents a partnership between the federal government and local communities, often met through donated funds, space, goods, materials, or in-kind volunteer services.

In addition to federal funding, Heartland Head Start is supported by the United Way of Livingston County, Illinois Department of Human Services, Illinois State Board of Education and other grants and donations from the community.

We welcome and encourage both program parents and community members to volunteer in a wide range of opportunities within our program. Heartland Head Start volunteer services are “valued” at a dollar amount and are counted as part of the in-kind match from the local community.
