At Heartland Head Start we strive to provide a safe physical and social environment that is conducive to learning and reflective of the different stages of development of each child. It is also an environment of acceptance that supports and respects gender, culture, language, ethnicity and family composition.
Each center conducts regular fire, tornado and bus drills, participates in DCFS licensing renewals and has emergency preparedness guides in each classroom. Heartland Head Start utilizes secure buildings at our Stillwell and Brigham campuses to help ensure the safety of the children. This includes video surveillance and staff assisted secure entry doors. Our staff works with parents to utilize a code system to provide secure access to the buildings. In the classroom, sign in/sign out sheets along with emergency contact information help safeguard the arrival and departure of the children.
